The Wattis Institute

A new facade is grafted onto a pair of warehouse buildings for the Wattis Gallery, a world-class exhibition space in San Francisco. The elevation is punctuated by horizontal cutouts with an operable glazed wall that opens onto the sidewalk, offering views to the gallery inside. Two voluminous, yet distinct sub-galleries are day-lit by diffused skylights on the 20’ tall, arched ceiling. The back gallery has the option of being blacked-out for multimedia exhibits, helping to provide the foundation with maximum curatorial flexibility.
